This Privacy Policy explains how Halal Food Scanner ("the App", "we", "us") handles information when you use the App. We are committed to protecting your privacy. The App is designed to collect as little data as possible, and it does not require you to create an account or provide any personal information.

1 Camera Access

The App requests camera permission for two purposes only:

Scanning product barcodes to identify a product.
Capturing ingredient-list photos for on-the-spot analysis.

Camera images are processed to read the barcode or ingredient text and are never permanently stored on our servers. Ingredient photos used for AI analysis are sent for processing and are not retained by us.

2 Product Data (Community Database)

When you scan a product, the App may store the following non-personal product information in our database (Google Firebase) to build a shared, community-driven halal food reference:

Product barcode
Product name
Ingredients text
Analysis result (halal / haram / doubtful)
Detected haram or doubtful ingredients
Country of manufacture (if available)
Anonymous scan count (statistics)

This information relates to products, not to you. It contains no name, email, location, device identifier, or any data that could identify you personally.

3 Data Stored Only on Your Device

The following is stored locally on your device and is never sent to us:

Your recent scan history
Your favorite products
App preferences (language, allergy settings)

You can clear this at any time from within the App or by uninstalling it.

4 Third-Party Services

To provide its features, the App uses the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

Google Gemini AI

When you use AI ingredient analysis, the ingredient image or text is sent to the Google Gemini API to recognize text and assess halal status. See Google AI terms.

Google Firebase

Used to host the shared product database described in Section 2. See Firebase Privacy.

Open Food Facts

A public, open database used to look up product information by barcode. See Open Food Facts Privacy.

5 Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children. It is safe for general audiences and requires no personal data to function.

6 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
